When the Relief Society was organized in Nauvoo on 17 March 1842 the Prophet declared that this was a direct fulfillment of the promise Emma had been given relative to the “elect lady” designation in D&C 25 (see Jill Mulvay Derr, Janath Russell Cannon, and Maureen Ursenbach Beecher, Women of Covenant [1992], 10).
